The Sounkyo Onsen Ice Fall Festival is one of the most popular winter events in Hokkaido. The 10,000 m2 venue, which utilizes the banks of the Ishikari River, is lined with about 30 ice sculptures of various sizes, a 13-meter-high ice room, an observation deck, a tube slide, and the Ice Fall Shrine. The ice sculptures, which take about three months to create taking advantage of the nature of the deep canyon at the foot of Daisetsuzan, are illuminated with seven colors of light at night to create a fantastic space. During the festival, various events will be held on the stage, and fireworks will be launched to beautifully color the extremely cold night sky.
