At midnight on New Year's Day, the first day of the year after the end of the year, approximately 300 torches, each 70 meters long and 50 meters wide, painted with the character for "dai" (large) are lit with sacred fire from Kamifurano Shrine, creating a fantastic and majestic event unique to snow country that brings Daimonji to life on a snow-covered slope.
