A special exhibition will be held with calligraphy works based on Hokkaido's place names and nature as the backdrop, set against the backdrop of Otaru's historic streets. The exhibition features powerful yet delicate calligraphy works by Kyoun Tsujii, a representative calligrapher of Hokkaido, and his students. These works, which combine traditional techniques with a modern sensibility, convey the depth of Japanese culture while also fully expressing the unique charm of Hokkaido.

<Highlights of the Exhibition>
■ Numerous calligraphy works that symbolize Hokkaido's nature and culture
Works on display will feature place names and natural themes that symbolize Hokkaido, such as "Otaru Festival," "Wind," and "Nature." The works, which incorporate a modern sensibility while making use of traditional calligraphy techniques, symbolize the magnificent nature and culture of Hokkaido.
■ A diverse range of works by Kyoun Tsujii and his students
The exhibition will feature not only works by Kyoun Tsujii, one of Hokkaido's leading calligraphers, but also unique works by his students who have inherited his techniques and philosophy. <Artist introduction>
■ Kyoun Tsujii (1944-2019): A contemporary calligrapher representing Hokkaido. Calligrapher Kyoun Tsujii was born in Uryu Town, Hokkaido, and throughout his life he produced a series of ambitious and innovative works. The beauty and strength of the shapes of the characters he expressed were something that no other writer could imitate. In addition, as a university professor and the organizer of the calligraphy group "Shoken," he nurtured many writers.

■Yutoshi Kobayashi: Born in Hokkaido. One of Kyoun Tsujii's main students. He took over as the representative of the calligraphy group "Shoken" from Kyoun Tsujii.

■Nobuaki Doi: Born in Hokkaido. One of Kyoun Tsujii's main students. Currently a lecturer and associate professor at the Faculty of Education (Calligraphy) at Hokkaido University of Education, where Kyoun Tsujii once taught.

■Yukari Nakagami: Born in Hokkaido. One of Kyoun Tsujii's main students.

■Tsujii Tatsuki: Born in Hokkaido. The eldest son of Kyoun Tsujii. Grew up in a house filled with the scent of ink from an early age. Currently working to introduce calligraphy to the world.
