The "Monbetsu Drift Ice Festival" began in 1963 (Showa 38). Nowadays, Monbetsu is known as the "town of drift ice". In the past, local residents did not welcome the arrival of drift ice because it closed off the sea. The "Drift Ice Festival" was devised to connect this nuisance to the revitalization of the area.
■Main ice sculpture: "Sojiji Soin" (Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture)
■ Comedy Stage: A special stage by popular comedians who are very popular on TV etc.
