The Hokkaido Marathon is the only full-scale marathon event held in the summer in Japan. A total of 20,000 people participated, including elite athletes and general runners from within and outside Hokkaido and overseas. The marathon course is part of the marathon and race walking course for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Starting at Odori Park, where the Sapporo TV Tower is located in the center of Sapporo, the race passes through Susukino, one of Japan's leading entertainment districts, and takes in the mountains and rivers while visiting tourist attractions such as the lush green campus of Hokkaido University and the red brick government building where the Olympic record line paint still remains. After the race, we recommend sightseeing and enjoying gourmet food such as seasonal fish, vegetables, and meat, or recovering from fatigue in a hot spring that is easily accessible from the center of the city.
