Tales of Dinosaurs and the Sea Exhibition

Date and Time

2025/10/9~

17:00-22:00 (last entry 21:00)

Under the theme of "experiencing the history of life from ancient times to the present," the tour will feature four exhibits, guided by photographer Naoki Ishikawa, known for his travels around the world and for climbing all 14 of the world's 8,000-meter peaks last year. Through exhibits of dinosaur and whale fossils, the formation of the Earth, and our aquarium friends living today, visitors will explore the magnificent story of life.

The aquarium will exhibit a full-body reconstructed skeleton*1 of the approximately 8m-long dinosaur "Kamuysaurus japonicus" (commonly known as the "Mukawa Dragon"), which was announced as a new genus and species in 2019, and a fossilized spine*2 of the "Sapporo Whale (Megabalaena sapporoensis)," which was discovered in Sapporo and named as a new species in August 2025. The existing ammonite fossil exhibit will also be enhanced under the supervision of Naoki Ishikawa. Furthermore, a photo album compiled by aquarium staff will be released to the public, documenting the growth of the northern rockhopper penguin chicks "Shari" and "Shibecha," which were born at AOAO SAPPORO in June 2025.
