Sapporo Factory

Overview

A commercial facility standing on the former site of "Kaitakushi Beer Brewery," the first beer factory made by Japanese hands, built by the Kaitakushi (Hokkaido Development Commission) in 1876 (Meiji 9). The building's interior is largely divided into seven areas, and what is distinctive is the "Atrium," which has a structure like a large greenhouse. From the basement, four floors' worth is an open space, a pleasant space where sunlight pours in. You can enjoy shopping while going around the outdoor shops, general stores, interior shops, and cafes lined up surrounding the open space.

From November until late December, a giant Christmas tree brought from Hiroo Town in Tokachi is decorated, and when it becomes 4 PM, the illuminations light up along with music. Also, in Chimney Plaza, there is also "Sapporo Kaitakushi Beer - Urisabakisho (Sales Office)" where freshly brewed beer, recreating the taste from the time of the factory's founding, can be drunk for 250 yen.

In the plaza known by the nickname "Chimney Plaza," the chimney, which is the symbol of the beer factory, towers high. In winter, a Santa climbing up the chimney appears.
