Yahkoh Gakuen Iris Garden
Flowers that add coolness to the summer land.
The Iris Garden is open to the public for a limited time only.
The Iris Garden of the Hokkaido College of Agriculture is open to the public for two weeks from early to late July every year for a fee. The iris garden, which is part of a farm, covers an area of about 2 hectares, where 100,000 irises of 450 varieties display their distinct colors. The field of irises is spread out on a gently sloping hill, and each row of irises is planted with a different species. The gradation of colors is beautiful, and since there are no high-rise buildings around, visitors can take pictures of the entire field of flowers. At the same time that the iris garden is open to the public, iris seedlings and other flower seedlings grown by the school's students are sold directly to visitors. The school also offers guided tours of the garden with students explaining about irises.
