SPOT
Ebetsu City Tonden Museum
This is the headquarters building of the Tonden soldiers who entered the Nopporo area around 1894 (Meiji 17). As the oldest existing building, it was designated as a Tangible Cultural Property of Hokkaido in 1958.
It is a two-story wooden building with a unique construction method called "balloon frame method" in which no beams are passed through the ceiling, and is one of the few remains of a government building from the Meiji period.
