Mt. Eniwa

Mt. Eniwa, 1,320 meters above sea level, is derived from the Ainu word e-en-iwa, meaning "pointy-headed rock mountain. It is a conical volcano with a rock tower at its summit. There is an eastward-facing explosion crater near the summit, and a deep fissure extending eastward from the crater reaches the shore of the lake as the Poropinai stream. There are several fumaroles in this fissure, and it is designated as an active volcano.
It takes about 3.5 hours to ascend and 2 hours and 40 minutes to descend due to the varied rocky terrain, cliffs, and steep slopes. From the top, you can see the whole view of Lake Shikotsu, the Hidaka Mountains, the Ishikari Plain, and Sapporo.
(Note) Please do not go beyond the second viewing platform (located between the 8th and 9th stations) as the summit has partially collapsed and there is a risk of falling rocks. Please be careful when climbing the mountain.
