Zento-ji Niou Statue
This Niou statue is located at the temple gate of Zento-ji temple of the Soto sect of Zen Buddhism. Two statues, Mijaku Kongo and Nanen Kongo, are enshrined on either side for the protection of Buddhism and make a gallant sight.
It is said to have been made by Kazama Sokei in 1918, and its spirited appearance makes it one of the most famous wooden Buddhist statues in Hokkaido.
