Ogawara Shu Memorial Museum

Born in Kutchan, Ogawara Shu graduated from Tokyo School of Fine Arts (now Tokyo University of the Arts) and began his career as an avant-garde painter. He was involved in the founding of the surrealist Art and Culture Association. After the war, he returned to Kutchan and continued his artistic endeavors there for 60 years.

Since turning 60, he has been exploring new creative horizons in China, Tibet, and India. In addition to a permanent exhibition of Shu Ogawara's work, the museum also hosts special exhibitions throughout the year. The lobby, with its magnificent view of Mt. Yotei, is also a must-see.
