Melody Bridge
The "Kitano Bridge" was built in 1982.
Since it was considered the last permanent bridge to be constructed in the town, then Mayor Kobayashi instructed the town to "utilize part of the construction cost to make the bridge unique," and those in charge devised a "sound-playing bridge.
The bridge was also a route for children of Kitano Elementary School to go to school, and the idea came from the sound that children made while walking with umbrellas on the parapet of the bridge, etc. The bridge was built to play a tune when the children hit the rebar while walking.
The song "Yuyake Koyake" was selected from a children's song for the children to enjoy when they go home after school.
The bridge was widely acclaimed as the first "melody-playing bridge" in Japan, and thus became commonly known as the "Melody Bridge.
