SPOT
Ishigakiyama
Ishigakiyama is said to be the site of an ancient battle between the Tokachi Ainu and Ishikari Ainu. The columnar jointed rock surface and colonies of mountain hydrangea are worth seeing.
In "Ishikari Nisshi" written by Takeshiro Matsuura, an explorer at the end of the Edo period, he wrote, "We have arrived at Sankesomanai. We arrived at Sankesomanai, where the cliffs are steep and empty, and we entered a large rock cave. It is said that Rinzo Mamiya also visited this Ishigaki Mountain.
It is also a famous rock-climbing spot.
Ishigaki is recognized as a Japanese Heritage Site as a place that offers a glimpse into the culture and history of the Kamikawa (Ishikari) Ainu people.
