Bokke Trail

A 15-minute walk along the Bokke Nature Trail, which starts next to the Akankohan Eco Museum Center, takes you to a place called "Bokke". Bokke means "boiling" in Ainu language, and here hot mud is gushing out from the ground along with volcanic gases. Although the area is adjacent to the Lake Akan Onsen Hot Spring Resort, the scenic route is rich in nature, and you can spot many wild animals such as Ezo squirrels, Japanese white-backed woodpeckers, and black woodpeckers. The scenic trail leads from the side of the Lake Akan Eco-Museum Center to the sightseeing boat stop, which takes about 45 minutes.
