Niseko Railway Heritage Site
In the summer of 2021, the Niseko Railway Heritage Site was established in the area adjacent to Niseko Station (Niseko Ohashi side).
When the C62 Niseko entered Niseko Station in 1990, the former Shintoku locomotive turntable was moved to this site and used to change the direction of the C62, the largest steam locomotive in Japan.
After the train was discontinued in 1995, it fell into disrepair, but in 2014, railroad photographer Yoshio Arakawa and his team succeeded in manually restoring the turntable to its original state. The shed was installed and the locomotive was officially opened to the public in 2019.
Then, in the summer of 2020. The Niseko Express, which was retired in 2017, will be preserved here. After its retirement, the Niseko Express will be preserved in the town of Niseko, thanks to the support of many people from all over Japan through crowdfunding. This "Niseko Railway Heritage Site" was made possible with your support. We look forward to your visit.
