Sapporo Ōdōri Underground Gallery 500m Art Museum
Sapporo Odori Underground Gallery "500m Museum" has as its predecessor the art division (nickname "500m Museum") of "Sapporo Art Stage," which conducts exhibitions of art works limited to November, with the underground concourse connecting Sapporo Municipal Subway Odori Station and Bus Center-mae Station as the venue.
Subsequently, receiving requests from citizens and arts and culture stakeholders to make it permanent, in addition to the perspective of effective utilization of the underground passage, and as one of the places to disseminate domestic and international arts and culture centered on Sapporo artists, it was made permanent on November 3, 2011 (Culture Day) as the longest facility in Japan as a gallery installed in a passage within a station facility.
In Sapporo, a snowy and cold region, utilizing the underground space where one can move safely and comfortably throughout the four seasons as a venue for local artists' presentations, and disseminating Sapporo's culture and arts domestically and internationally, and exhibiting works by domestic and international artists, with the aim of creating opportunities for citizens to encounter various art works, multiple exhibitions are held every year.
