Sapporo Odori Underground Gallery 500m Museum of Art
A linear space that fosters creativity.
The Sapporo Odori Underground Gallery "500m Museum of Art" was originally the art section of "Sapporo Art Stage" (nicknamed "500m Museum of Art"), an art exhibition held only in November in the underground concourse between Odori Station and Bus Center Station of the Sapporo Municipal Subway.
After that, in response to requests from citizens and people involved in art and culture to make it a permanent installation, it was made a permanent installation on November 3, 2011 (Culture Day) as the longest gallery installed in a passageway in a station facility in Japan, not only from the perspective of effective use of the underground passageway, but also as a place to disseminate art and culture from Japan and abroad, centering on Sapporo artists. The gallery is the longest of its kind in Japan and is permanently installed as a gallery in a passageway within a station facility.
The gallery holds several exhibitions every year, utilizing the underground space, which is safe and comfortable to move around in all four seasons in the snowy and cold region of Sapporo, as a venue for local artists to present their works, and to promote Sapporo's culture and art both inside and outside the city. The museum holds several exhibitions each year.
