SPOT
Former Rumoi Saga Family Fishing Ground
In 1844, Heinojo VIII of the Saga family opened the first herring fishing ground in Rumoi in the town of Reiji, and since then, for 113 years until 1957, the herring fishery has been operated here.
The current buildings include the main house (banya), which is thought to have been built between the Edo period and the early Meiji period, a tota warehouse built in 1903 to store products, a boat warehouse to store boats, a corridor to temporarily store offshore herring, and Inari Shrine, the guardian deity of the fishing grounds.
