SPOT
Nenohi Park
Nenohi Park overlooking Lake Atsugishi was acquired by the town in 1962 from the 120,000-square-meter Nenohi Park, which had been cherished by the late Hiroki Nenohi, who served as mayor of Atsugishi Town from 1923 to 1935.
Since then, the town has planted more than 1,000 Ezo-yamazakura (Oyama cherry) trees, the "town tree," and the park has become a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, surpassing Kokutaiji Temple, and a popular venue for various events such as the "Sakura and Oyster Festival" in the spring and "Oyster Festival" in the fall.
There are approximately 1,200 cherry trees in the park, including Ezo-yamazakura and Yae-zakura, as well as Fugenzou cherry trees, which are rare in Hokkaido.
Visitors can enjoy barbecues at any time during the opening period, and there is also combination playground equipment for children and walking trails for forest bathing, making the park enjoyable even outside of the cherry blossom season.
