Nenohi Park
Nenohi Park, overlooking Lake Akkeshi, was originally a 120,000 square meter park called Suikoen, which had been cherished by the late Nenohi Hirotake, who served as Akkeshi town mayor from 1923 to 1935. It was acquired by the town in 1962.
The town subsequently planted over a thousand Siberian mountain cherry trees (Ooyamazakura), which are the town's tree, and the area is now loved by many people as a famous cherry blossom spot surpassing Kokutaiji Temple. It is also a venue for various events, such as the Cherry Blossom and Oyster Festival in the spring and the Oyster Festival in the autumn.
In addition to Siberian mountain cherry and double-flowered cherry trees, the park also has a type of cherry tree called Fugenzo, which is rare in Hokkaido.
There are also combination play equipment for children to play on and walking paths for forest bathing, so you can enjoy the park even outside of cherry blossom season.
