Cape Aikappu
Cape Aikappu, one of the representative sights of Atsugishi, was named with the thought of 'overcoming difficulties that seem impossible to overcome and gaining the crown of love. The original name means "ai kappu" in Ainu language, and also has the meaning of "impossible or unreachable" because of the unreachable point of the arrow.
This cape juts out into Atsugishi-Bay and is on a cliff several tens of meters high, offering a magnificent view of Daikokujima and Kojima, famous seabird breeding grounds, in front of you, and the Chikushi Koi Coast below you.
Surrounded by native forests of alpine dake-kamba (Betula platyphylla) and Ezo spruce (Betula platyphylla), the area is ideal for forest bathing. There are also a museum, a green hometown park, and a provincial youth nature house in the vicinity, where visitors can take a leisurely stroll.
In 1992, the "Bell Arch of Love Bell" was completed at Cape Aikan, and it is popular among visitors as a bell to make their wishes come true.
