Aikappu (Aikappu) Cape
Akkeshi's representative famous place, Aicap (aikappu) Cape, was named with the thought of "overcoming seemingly impossible difficulties and obtaining the crown of love." Its original name is in the Ainu language, meaning Ai-Cup (thing on top of an arrow), and from the place where arrows cannot reach, it also has the meaning of "cannot do, cannot reach."
This cape, jutting out into Akkeshi Bay, is on top of a cliff tens of meters high, and before one's eyes, one can view Daikoku Island and Kojima, famous as seabird breeding grounds, and beneath one's eyes, Tsukushikoi Coast, and can see a magnificent view.
The surroundings are naturally growing with tree groves of alpine plants such as Erman's birch and Yezo spruce, and it is an ideal place for forest bathing. Also, in the vicinity, there are facilities such as a museum, Green Hometown Park, and Prefectural Youth Nature House, and one can also take a leisurely stroll.
In Heisei 4, the "Bell of Love Bell Arch" was completed at Aicap Cape, and as a bell that grants wishes, it is gaining popularity among visiting people.
