Rishiri Island Local History Museum

This museum is housed in the former Oniwaki Village Hall. It is a Western-style historical building that utilizes the former Oniwaki Village Hall, built in 1913, and was opened in 1973. The main exhibits include dioramas featuring the nature of Rishiri, and recreations of island life from primitive antiquity to the modern pioneering period, as well as the atmosphere of the herring fishing grounds. The museum's atmospheric interior, which looks like a time slip back to the Taisho and Showa eras, and the exterior of the building, with Rishiri Fuji in the background, look like a scene from a movie.
