Sakura no Taki

This is a 2.5-meter-high waterfall where cherry blossoms bloom in the spring, and from June to August, you can see cherry salmon (sakuramasu) jumping over the falls.

Cherry salmon (sakuramasu) are a species of salmonid fish, known as the 'queen of mountain streams' (yamame, or yamabe as they are called in Hokkaido), that descend to the sea, grow large, and then return to the river to spawn. In Japan, their upstream migration can be seen in rivers on the Sea of Japan side and in northern Japan, but a place where they jump over such a large waterfall is rare worldwide.
And while only a few fish succeed in clearing the falls by combining strength, timing, location, and luck, their earnest jumping efforts will make you want to cheer them on out loud.

Furthermore, at the beginning of the jumping season in June, the fish's bodies shine silver, and as the spawning season approaches in August, they gradually turn a cherry blossom pink.
Then in September, after spawning, they pass their lives on to the next generation, just like other salmon.
