SPOT
Kaizosawa Fossil Park
Overview
The stratum containing fossils from more than one million years ago is preserved as it is in Kaizosawa Fossil Park. The park has produced more than 30 species of shell fossils, including the Ezo tamaki mussel and the Vinous mussel, and was the first place in Hokkaido where three warm-temperate extinct species were discovered. In addition to walking paths, the park also has an observation deck where visitors can observe the fossils from a height of 40 meters above sea level. This is a must-see place for children to visit as a living educational tool.
