Ruins of the landing site of the Hakodate War government troops
Overview
The Hakodate War marked the dawn of a new Hokkaido. Here in Otobe, there are traces of the Hakodate War. In the early morning of April 9, 1869 (Meiji 2), a large fleet of the government forces rushed into the waters of Otobe and landed at Tsuka (Motomachi) and Aidomari (Tateura). After landing in Otobe, the Guan troops engaged the former shogunate forces around Semouchi Hill, which is now part of Miyanomori Park, and then set out for Goryokaku. A monument still stands at the site where the government troops landed.
