Obsidian is a "natural glass" created by volcanic eruptions! It has been used by people since ancient times because it can be made into a sharp blade just by breaking it.
In Shirataki, Engaru Town, a large number of stone tools made of obsidian have been discovered from the remains of a mammoth elephant that lived in Hokkaido more than 20,000 years ago.
At the "Engaru Town Center for Archaeological and Cultural Properties," visitors can learn about the life of the people of 20,000 years ago by touching the real stone tools they left behind!
