Jomon, Shokujomon and Abies Period Settlement Ruins in the Forest
"Tokoro Ruins Forest" is an area on the plateau facing Lake Saroma (total area 120,822 square meters) of the nationally designated historic site "Tokoro Ruins" for visitors.
■Exhibition and Research Facilities
Facilities that can be visited include the Tokoro Site Hall, the Tokoro Center for Archaeological Properties, and the University of Tokyo Tsunero Archaeological Museum.
Tokoro Site Hall: This is the central exhibition facility located at the entrance to the Tokoro Site Forest.
Tokoro Center for Archaeological Properties: This facility houses materials and offers hands-on learning opportunities.
The University of Tokyo Tsunero Museum of Literature: An exhibition facility operated by the University of Tokyo Tsunero Training Facility.
■ Site
The remains of Jomon, post-Jomon, and Abies period settlements are spread out in a deciduous forest of mainly oak and oak trees, and a walking trail has been established for visitors to explore. There is also an archaeological exhibition and research facility adjacent to the ruins. The forest is also a place for nature observation, with numerous wild birds and wildflowers to be seen each season.
Abrahamic Village: This is a village site from the Abrahamic period.
Jomon Village and Jomon Village: Settlement sites from the Jomon to the post-Jomon periods.
