Rausu-cho Local History Museum
This museum exhibits many materials donated by Rausu residents related to daily life and fishing, pottery and stone tools excavated from ruins, and stuffed Blakiston's fish owls and Steller's sea eagles that are representative of the nature of Shiretoko.
The museum is housed in the building of the former Uebetsu Elementary and Junior High School.
In addition to exhibits such as earthenware and stoneware from the Jomon and post-Jomon periods, there are also exhibits of Ainu culture from the medieval to early modern periods and important cultural assets such as "Articles Excavated from the Northern Bank of the Shoho River Site in Hokkaido," allowing visitors to learn about the lives of people around Shiretoko from prehistoric times.
There are also exhibits on "Rausu Hikarigoke," a Hokkaido Natural Monument, and the history of the former Uebetsu Elementary and Junior High School.
