Ukishima Marsh

This high-rise marsh, 850 m above sea level and covering an area of about 700 ha, is dotted with swamps of various sizes, some of which have floating islands formed by marsh grass roots, hence its name.
Floating islands are said to be few and far between in Japan.
Around the marshland, there are many aquatic plants such as Ezo azalea and mozen moss, as well as alpine plants such as Ezo azalea and chingle-leaf maple.
In addition, many Ezo salamanders and wild birds are seen here.
The walking path from the parking lot to the marshland is covered with virgin forests of red spruce, black spruce, and Japanese spruce,
The path from the parking lot to the marshland is lined with old-growth forests of red Ezo spruce, black Ezo spruce, Japanese azalea, and Mizubasho.
Please enjoy the beautiful marshlands, swamps, and floating islands created by nature over a long period of time.
