Koshimizu is a small town with a population of about 5,000, located in the northeastern part of Hokkaido. It is situated at the southernmost limit where the "winter messenger," drift ice, arrives. The town's elevation ranges from 0 meters at the Sea of Okhotsk to 1,000 meters at Mt. Mokoto in Akan National Park.
The climate is favorable for growing crops, with an average annual temperature of about 6°C, annual precipitation of 800-900 mm, and about 800 hours of sunshine during the farming season (May to September). The town engages in highly productive agriculture, centered on large-scale, mechanized field cropping and dairy farming.
From summer to autumn, the peak season for agriculture, you can see a magnificent landscape along a road named "Potato Road." The view, which includes Mt. Shari, the Shiretoko mountain range, and endless farmlands, is one that truly represents Hokkaido.
