Urakawa Town is located in the southern part of the Hidaka Subprefecture in Hokkaido. It is a town rich in nature, with the majestic Hidaka Mountains to the north and the endlessly sprawling Pacific Ocean to the south. It is situated approximately 180 kilometers from Sapporo City and 150 kilometers from Obihiro City, in a location with Samani Town to the east, Shinhidaka Town to the west, and a view of Cape Erimo to the southeast.
Its greatest charm is its extremely mild climate, a maritime climate strongly influenced by the ocean. In summer, the sea breeze is pleasant and cool, while in winter, it is characteristically very warm for Hokkaido with little snow. Due to its unparalleled livability and pleasant climate, it is also known as the "Shonan of Hokkaido," and it boasts a rich natural environment where everyone can live comfortably and pleasantly throughout the year.
A major industry that can be called synonymous with the town, making the most of this blessed environment, is the production and raising of thoroughbreds. There are approximately 200 vast ranches scattered throughout the town, where over 3,000 horses gallop powerfully over carpets of lush green. It is a charming town filled with the spirit of fine horses, where the idyllic and beautiful scenery of raising famous horses destined for the world stage harmonizes with the gentle blessings of the sea.
