Population:5,700
Shihoro Town is located in the Kato District, under the jurisdiction of the Tokachi General Subprefectural Bureau in Hokkaido. It is blessed with a rich natural environment, featuring a mountainous area in the northwest with Mount Higashi-Nupukaushinupuri of the Higashi-Taisetsu Mountain Range as its highest peak, and the hilly terrain of the Sakura Mountain Range and the river terraces of the Oribe River in the east.
Located about 30km north of Obihiro, the central city of the Tokachi region, it is bordered by Honbetsu Town to the east, Shikaoi Town to the west, and Ikeda Town to the southeast.
Taking advantage of its inland climate with large temperature differences between day and night, dry-field farming and dairy farming are thriving. The climate is characterized as "cold but with little snow" in winter and "hot but dry" in summer.
The town's name, "Shihoro," is said to derive from the pronunciation of "Shuu-woro," an Ainu word meaning "vast land."
Shihoro is truly a town of agriculture and livestock, with approximately 60% of its total area being agricultural land. Fields stretch endlessly under a vast sky. Among its specialties, "Shihoro Beef" and "potatoes" are particularly characteristic of the town.
