Makubetsu, neighboring Obihiro in Tokachi, is a vibrant agricultural town of 27,000. It is famously the birthplace of Park Golf, offering 12 free courses for all. The Churui district is renowned for discovering Japan's first nearly complete Nauman elephant skeleton, displayed as a massive restoration in the local museum.
