SPOT
Nitta no Mori Kinenkan
The Nitta Group, which has been carving its history together with the town of Mukubetsu, was founded in the Meiji Era (1868-1912). The group's founder, Chojiro Nitta, established an astringent manufacturing business to extract tannin (astringent) from the bark of oak trees, and later, Chojiro's fifth son, Aisuke, expanded the business. Along with the astringent manufacturing factory, a plywood factory, dairy cattle ranch, horse ranch, farm, and condensed milk factory were also established, contributing to the development of the region and its culture.
The Nitta no Mori Memorial Museum, housed in a former storehouse, exhibits valuable materials that tell the story of his achievements and footsteps, as well as household items from the Nitta family collection.
