Fukushima Town, located in southern Hokkaido, is blessed with stunning nature, from Mt. Daisengen to the spectacular Iwabe Coast facing the Tsugaru Strait. As the birthplace of herring fishing in Hokkaido, it has a rich maritime history. The town is famous nationwide as the hometown of two great Yokozuna (sumo champions), Chiyonoyama and Chiyonofuji, celebrated at a dedicated memorial museum. Visitors can also explore the Seikan Tunnel Memorial Museum, showcasing the epic construction of the undersea tunnel.
