Popular for Ages! Kushiro's Long-Time Favorite Foods

Chikuroen Azumaya Sohonten's "Kashiwanuki"

First up is "Kashiwanuki" from Chikuroen Azumaya Sohonten, a long-established soba restaurant founded in 1874.

Kashiwanuki

With the wonderful aroma of dashi broth and savory chicken that whets the appetite, "Kashiwanuki" is a dish deeply loved by the people of Kushiro. Surprisingly, it's actually Kashiwa Soba (chicken soba) with the noodles removed. It's common for Kushiro locals to order "Kashiwanuki" as a side dish to enjoy with their main soba noodles.

Kadoya's "Tsubuyaki"

Next is "Tsubuyaki" from Kadoya, a corner shop in Kushiro's entertainment district, Suehiro.

Tsubuyaki (Grilled Whelk)

The Aotsubu whelk they use doesn't get tough even when boiled and has a great, satisfying texture! You firmly stick a skewer in, slowly twist it to pull out the whelk meat. It looks absolutely delicious! Be sure to drink up the special sauce left inside the shell. This Kushiro specialty, Tsubuyaki, is also available for takeout.

Furansu Sakan's "Chocolate Parfait"

This is the "Chocolate Parfait" from the long-established coffee shop, Furansu Sakan.

Chocolate Parfait

Chosen from a large menu along with a cup of blended coffee, the chocolate parfait is a gorgeous treat topped with plenty of fruits like melon and banana over ice cream and whipped cream. It's also a great place to visit for a "Shime Parfait," a parfait to perfectly round off a night of drinking.
