Camping is a classic outdoor activity to enjoy the magnificent nature of Hokkaido! At campgrounds in Hokkaido, you can enjoy an extraordinary experience in a variety of landscapes from spring to autumn. In this issue, we will introduce 13 campgrounds in the Hidaka and Erimo suburban areas, including those with excellent facilities that even beginners can easily enjoy!

Hidaka Saru River Auto Camp Ground (Hidaka Town)

This campground stretches along the Saru River at the foot of the Hidaka Mountains. The campground covers an area of 220,000 square meters, where visitors can enjoy playing in the river and bathing in the forest. There are 103 auto sites and 100 free tent sites, as well as barbecue houses, bungalows, and cooking facilities. A dog run is also available, and pets are welcome.

2. Nibutani Family Land (Hiratori Town)

Nibutani Family Land Campground has bungalows, auto sites, and free sites. Nearby are sports facilities such as a baseball field, tennis courts, gate ball field, and park golf course, as well as a plaza with battery cars and playground facilities popular with children, making it a fun place for the whole family.

3. bannankan forest park campsite (shinkan-cho)

Hangankan Forest Park covers a vast area of about 66 hectares, with Hangankan Cape overlooking the Pacific Ocean and a virgin forest of broad-leaved trees. Visitors can take a stroll along the walking trails while viewing a wide variety of flowers and wild birds, and play leisurely in the field athletic facilities. The area is also popular for its proximity to downtown Shinkan and the "Thoroughbred Ginza," a series of ranches.

4. Shika Park Campsite (Anping Town)

There are spacious and comfortable "compartment sites" and "free sites" where you can bring your pets. For beginners, "empty-handed camping" is recommended, which allows easy camping with no need to set up and take down tents. In addition, BBQ corner facilities are available for casual BBQ enjoyment.

5. Niseu Ecoland (Hiratori Town)

The spacious campground allows visitors to drive in their own cars or campers, and has comfortable facilities for enjoying outdoor life to the fullest. This is a free-site auto campground where winter camping can also be enjoyed. The facilities include private camping sites where you can bring your car into the dog run, auto sites where you can bring your car in, coin-operated showers, cooking facilities, a cafeteria, and more. Hobetsu Campsite was created with the idea of "keeping as much of nature as possible. The large grass tent sites and bungalows are popular. 10. Apoi Sanroku Family Park (Samani Town)

Family Park, which is also the trailhead for Mt. Apoi, is a comprehensive leisure park that includes a visitor center for climbers, a campground, go-carts, athletic playground equipment, a park golf course, and the Mount Apoi Villa. The campground is a free site with small but adequate bungalows, flush toilets, and cooking facilities.

11. Oyakoiwa Fureai Beach (Samani Town)

Oyakoiwa Fureai Beach overlooks Oyakoiwa Rock on the Pacific Ocean and offers a spectacular view that soothes the hearts of those who drive there. It is a marine area where families can enjoy not only swimming but also camping, fishing breakwaters, and playground equipment facilities. Cold water showers, changing rooms, and flush toilets are also available.

13. Samani Dam Campsite (Samani Town)

This is a wild and secluded campsite recommended for those who want to have a great time with their friends. There are cooking facilities and river fishing can be enjoyed in summer. The campground is also famous for its cherry blossoms, which are at their best in mid-May.
