The town of Teshikaga, located in the eastern part of Hokkaido, is famous for its sightseeing attractions such as Lake Mashu, one of the clearest lakes in the world, and Kawayu Onsen, one of the best hot spring resorts in Hokkaido. Memanbetsu Airport is convenient for visiting Teshikaga, and from September 2 to October 30, 2022, an airport liner will be in operation for a limited time to connect the airport with lodging facilities in the town. In this issue, we introduce some of Teshikaga's attractions for the fall holiday season!
The Airport Liner runs between Memanbetsu Airport and lodging facilities in Teshikaga Town, such as Kussharo Prince Hotel and Kawayu Onsen Hot Springs. The ride is a quick and easy way to take in the scenery from the train window. Once you arrive at your destination, why not start by relaxing in the footbath to relieve travel fatigue?
At JR Kawayu Onsen Station, you can soak in a footbath inside the station. Since it is indoors, you can enjoy it regardless of the season. The tables and benches made of logs also have a warm and tasteful atmosphere.
On the other hand, you can soak in the footbath in a wild atmosphere at JR Mashu Station. It is popular not only among tourists waiting for the train, but also among locals. When using the station, you must bring a towel.
Io-zan, located about 1.6 km from JR Kawayu Onsen Station, is another popular sightseeing spot in Teshikaga Town. As the name suggests, the mountain is rich in sulfur, and sulfur crystals can be seen near the fumaroles.
Mt. Io-zan is still fuming vigorously. The unique smell of sulfur is also present in the air around the mountain, allowing visitors to feel the dynamism of nature up close.

Visit Mt. Io-zan in Teshikaga-cho and ponder its history."Lake Mashu is the place to visit when you travel to Teshikaga Town! On a clear day, the view of Lake Mashu is spectacular. The "Mashu blue" created by the lake's transparency, which is one of the clearest in the world, attracts many people.
In addition, "Lake Mashu Kamui Terrace" will open in the summer of 2022 in the Lake Mashu First Observation Deck area. The rooftop terrace with its three-tiered deck structure allows visitors to see the various natural faces of Lake Mashu depending on where they stand. The facility also has a lounge and an exhibition corner, and with so much to enjoy besides the scenery, you are sure to stay longer than you would like.
Lake Kussharo is the largest caldera lake in Japan. Lake Kussharo is the largest caldera lake in Japan, and many hot springs are gushing out along its shores. Free open-air baths and sand bath spots are scattered around the area, so be sure to take a bath. It will be a valuable hot spring experience that is different from what you can enjoy at a hot spring hotel.
After sightseeing the popular spots in Teshikaga Town, you can enjoy a relaxing soak in the hot springs, stroll around the hot spring resort, or simply enjoy your trip to the fullest. Of course, you can take the Airport Liner on your return trip, so you can enjoy sightseeing to your heart's content until the end of the day.
