The museum has a very stylish atmosphere with motifs of the sea and fishing industry, as if it were a port town. The store sells processed marine products, such as the specialty of Sutou, shirasu tsukudani (sweetened young sardines boiled in soy sauce), and sakura trout and salmon toba (salmon mackerel). Sutsu, a port town that prospered from herring fishing

寿都

The roadside station "Minatomare Sutsu" is located next to the port of Sutsu. When you pull into the parking lot, you will see an old wooden boat. According to the description, the boat was once used for herring fishing in this area.

寿都

A "Nishin Kaido" (herring road) marker has been set up right next to the boat to tell the history of the herring fishing industry that flourished in this area. After the herring began to disappear, the town of Sutto focused on "nurturing fisheries" such as scallop and oyster farming.

寿都

Climbing the stairs from the parking lot to the pavilion, you will find a cool terrace on the fishing port side. On a fine day, it is nice to relax while feeling the sea breeze.

Michi no Eki Minatomare Sutto" is recommended for a break or lunch during a drive. Be sure to stop by!
