Here, you can enjoy playing on the beach and having a BBQ, of course, but also indulge in outdoor activities at the nearby auto campground or relax in a konbu (kelp) onsen. On your way out, savor Hidaka's local specialties and hunt for souvenirs! This time, we'll introduce the charming Michi-no-Eki Mitsuishi and its surrounding facilities!
A Hub for Marine Leisure with a Panoramic View of the Pacific Ocean
Michi-no-Eki Mitsuishi is located within Mitsuishi Kaihin Park, along National Route 235 which runs along the coastline of the Donan and Hidaka regions. It offers a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean and is conveniently located near a well-equipped auto campground, Mitsuishi Konbu Onsen "Kurazo," and the Hidaka Fisheries Cooperative "Specialty Products Sales Center," making it a popular base for marine leisure.
It gets especially lively with campers and families in the summer. There's nothing quite like playing on the rocky shore and having a BBQ while looking out at the sea! The campground can be used for day trips as well as overnight stays.
We Tried the Famous "Tsubu Soba" at a Curious Little Shop!
When you visit Michi-no-Eki Mitsuishi, you have to stop by this shop in the parking lot, with its eye-catching sign for "Todai Tsubu Kushiyaki" (Grilled Lighthouse Whelk Skewers).
This shop serves dishes made with local Mitsuishi ingredients like konbu (kelp) and tsubu (whelk), and their "Tsubu Soba" is one of the most popular items on the menu.
Tsubu Soba: 1,000 yen
The combination of the rich, dark soy sauce soup infused with konbu dashi, the soba noodles, and the whelk is simply outstanding! It's a taste of the ocean's bounty that will have you coming back for more. According to the shop owner, the "Todai Tsubu Kushiyaki" is also extremely popular and sells out quickly.
