The "Sapporo White Illumination", which fantastically colors Sapporo in winter, is a very popular event for couples, families, and tourists. We will introduce various highlights that will help you enjoy Sapporo in winter even more, such as the different illumination themes and characteristics depending on the area.

"Sapporo White Illumination" is a classic winter event that has been held since 1981 as Japan's first illumination. In 2024, it will start on Friday, November 22nd, and the Odori venue will run until Wednesday, December 25th, the Ekimae-dori venue until Tuesday, February 11th, 2025, and the Minami Ichijo-dori venue, Kita 3-jo Plaza (Akapla) venue, and Sapporo Station South Exit Station Plaza venue until Friday, March 14th, 2025. The lights will be on mainly from 4:30pm to 10pm.

The main venue, Odori Park, will be decorated with beautiful illuminations from 1st to 6th chome. Each chome has a different theme and performance, so you're sure to find a photo spot you like.

At the Odori 1-chome venue, a symbolic object with wings called "Wish Birds" will be installed. The gold-shining object is based on the cuckoo, the bird of Sapporo, and expresses the essence of Sapporo. You can see the collaboration between this object and the light-up of the TV tower.

At the Odori 2-chome venue, which is also the event venue for the "Munich Christmas Market" being held at the same time, the Christmas object "Gift of Snow" will be appearing, and the decorations will be more voluminous. If you write your wish on the "Christmas ball" that will be sold exclusively at the venue and decorate the main object, your wish may come true!

The symbolic object "Winter Blossoms" is based on the motif of gorgeously shining lilacs, and is a popular object with beautiful five dynamic colors, including purple. It has been upgraded in collaboration with lily of the valley, the flower of Sapporo, and rosehip, the flower of Hokkaido.

The Odori 4-chome venue will feature an experiential "Snow Fantasia" event, where a glittering, fantastical tunnel of light will spread out, with snowflake-themed illuminations.

Cosmic Square is an experiential space with a star and space motif. A transparent dome dotted with glowing spheres, it features interactive mechanisms where light effects react to people's movements. The blue frame domes and shining balls scattered around the dome add to the sense of space.

At the Odori 6-chome venue, the "Emerald Forest" will be set up, with a forest of light with a green base and gold illuminations. The venue will be bathed in green with the trees lit up, creating a lush forest of light recreating the winter season. You can enjoy the popular "Light Maze" in the forest.

Along the 1.5km stretch of Ekimae-dori, which connects central Sapporo from north to south from JR Sapporo Station to Susukino, trees decorated with LEDs will be lined up, creating a fantastical landscape. Sapporo's main street will be bathed in light, and even just walking around will give you a romantic feeling.

On Minami Ichijo Street, which runs east to west parallel to Odori Park, 46 ginkgo trees lined up along the sidewalk will be gorgeously decorated with more than 70,000 LEDs. The approximately 300m long light trail will shine beautifully with dazzling, fantastical lights.

At Kita 3-jo Square, commonly known as Akapura, which overlooks the Hokkaido Prefectural Government Red Brick Building, the rows of old ginkgo trees in the square are decorated with illuminations. The square is lit up with lights, creating a dramatic landscape.

The "Flowers of Light" will be in full bloom in the square in front of the south exit of Sapporo Station. The "Flowers of Light" that appear among the illuminations will be transformed into a fantastical winter flower field with a sound and light program that will change four times during the period.
