Sapporo White Illumination" is a very popular event for couples, families and tourists. Here are some of the highlights to further enjoy Sapporo in winter, including the themes and features of the illuminations, which vary from area to area.

Sapporo White Illumination" is the first illumination in Japan and has been held since 1981 as a regular winter event. Minami Ichijo-dori, Kita 3-jo Hiroba (Akapura), and Sapporo Station South Exit Ekimae Hiroba will be open until March 14, 2025 (Friday). Lighting will take place mainly from 16:30 to 22:00.

Odori Park, the main venue, from 1-chome to 6-chome will be decorated with beautiful illuminations. Each street has a different theme and presentation, so you are sure to find your favorite photo spot.

The Odori 1-chome venue will feature "Wish Birds," a symbolic object decorated with symbolic wings. The golden object is based on the motif of the cuckoo, the city bird of Sapporo, and expresses the uniqueness of Sapporo. Visitors can see the collaboration of this objet d'art and the lighting up of the TV Tower.

Odori 2-chome venue, which is also the event site of the "Munich Christmas Market" being held at the same time, will be decorated with "Gift of Snow" Christmas objet d'art. If you write your wishes on the "Christmas Balls" sold exclusively at the venue and decorate the main objet d'art, your wishes may come true!

Winter Blossoms," a symbolic objet d'art in the motif of lilacs that radiate a gorgeous glow, is a popular objet d'art with five beautiful colors that change with movement, including purple colors. It has been upgraded in collaboration with lily of the valley, the flower of Sapporo, and the hamanasu, the flower of Hokkaido.

The Odori 4-chome venue features the interactive "Snow Fantasia. The illumination is based on the motif of snow crystals, creating a glittering and fantastic tunnel of light.

Cosmic Square" is a hands-on, interactive plaza with a star and space motif. Visitors can enjoy an interactive mechanism in which light effects react to the movement of people in a transparent dome scattered with glowing spheres. The dotted, blue glowing flame domes and shining balls add to the cosmic atmosphere.

The Odori 6-chome venue will feature the "Emerald Forest," a forest of light with a green base and gold illumination. With the addition of illuminated trees, the venue will be tinted green, creating a lush forest of light that replicates the winter season. Visitors can enjoy the popular "light maze" in the forest.

The 1.5-km stretch of Ekimae-dori Street, which runs north-south through the center of Sapporo from JR Sapporo Station to Susukino, will be lined with standing trees decorated with LED lights to create a fantastic scene. The main street of Sapporo will be enveloped in light, creating a romantic atmosphere just by walking along the street.

Minami Ichijo Dori, stretching east to west parallel to Odori Park, will be decorated with more than 70,000 LED lights on 46 ginkgo trees that line the sidewalk. The 300-meter-long path of light shines beautifully with fantastic and dazzling lights.

Kita 3-jo Plaza, commonly known as Akapura, overlooking the Hokkaido Prefectural Government's Red Brick Building, will be illuminated by old ginkgo trees lining the plaza. The plaza will be illuminated to create a dramatic scene.

In the plaza in front of the south exit of Sapporo Station, "Flowers of Light" will be in full bloom. The "Flower of Light" appears amidst the illumination and is transformed into a fantastic winter flower garden with a sound and light production program that changes four times during the period.
