Towards sustainable tourism through a cycle of travel and agriculture: Hoshino Resorts Tomamu's "Farm Hoshino" recycling agriculture project
Hoshino Resorts Tomamu, a popular resort where you can experience the nature of Hokkaido, released a video on November 30, 2023 about Farm Hoshino, a circular agriculture project with the concept of "travel x agriculture." What exactly is this "circular agriculture project" that Hoshino Resorts is working on?
What is Farm Hoshino?

Farm Hoshino is a recycling-based agriculture project taking place on about 100 hectares of land within the grounds of Hoshino Resort Tomamu. Before the resort was developed, the area where Tomamu was located was used for agriculture and around 700 cows were kept. In 2016, the golf business was abolished and the 100 hectares that used to be a golf course were turned into a farm area. Efforts were made to create rich soil and beautiful scenery, and currently around 30 dairy cows are raised here.
They also have free-range dairy farming, so you can see the cows.

The farm area has adopted free-range dairy farming, where cows roam the pastures and drop their manure, in an effort to make the land more fertile. Free-range dairy farming allows the cows to walk a lot, which helps them grow healthy in both body and mind, gives them nice coats, and makes the milk they produce sweet and delicious. Visitors can also see the cows living freely on the vast land, which is a soothing sight for the people.
Take a nap while counting real sheep? Experience program also available

Farm Hoshino also offers a number of hands-on programs. At the Moo Moo School, you can compare the milk of different cows and learn why they taste different in the form of a quiz, and you can even experience driving cows from their pastures. The farm also has a Ranch Lounge where you can relax while watching the cows roam the pastures, a 30-meter-long Giant Grass Bed, and a Hammock for Napping with Sheep, a spot where you can count real sheep and take a nap. It's a luxurious experience that lets you enjoy a resort stay while learning about animals.
