Farm Hoshino: Hoshino Resorts Tomamu's Initiative for Sustainable Tourism Through a Cycle of Travel and Agriculture

Hoshino Resorts TOMAMU, a popular resort where guests can experience the nature of Hokkaido, released a video on November 30, 2023, about "Farm Hoshino," a circular agriculture project based on the concept of "Travel x Agriculture." What exactly is this circular agriculture project undertaken by the renowned Hoshino Resorts?

What is "Farm Hoshino"?

Farm Hoshino

Farm Hoshino is a circular agriculture project operating on an approximately 100-hectare plot of land within the Hoshino Resorts TOMAMU property. Before the resort was developed, this area was home to about 700 cattle and active farming. In 2016, the golf business was discontinued, and the roughly 100-hectare golf course was converted into a farm area. Through efforts to create rich soil and beautiful landscapes, the farm now raises about 30 dairy cows.

The farm area employs pasture-grazing dairy farming, where cows roam the pastures and their manure helps to enrich the land. This method allows the cows to get plenty of exercise, leading to better physical and mental health, healthier coats, and sweeter, more delicious milk. Furthermore, visitors can enjoy the therapeutic sight of the cows living freely in the vast landscape.

Nap While Counting Real Sheep? A Variety of Hands-on Programs

Farm Hoshino

Farm Hoshino offers numerous hands-on programs. At the "Moo Moo School," participants can compare the milk from individual cows, learn why their tastes differ through a quiz format, and even experience "cow herding" by helping move the cows in the pasture. The farm also features a "Farm Lounge" where you can relax while watching the cows roam, a 30-meter-long "Giant Hay Bed," and "Nap with Sheep Hammocks," a spot where you can enjoy a nap while counting real sheep. These are luxurious experiences that allow you to learn about animals while enjoying your resort stay.
