AOAO SAPPORO "Happy Happy Penguins" watching over fairy penguin chicks that are still waddling... but growing up quickly.
AOAO SAPPORO, an urban aquarium in Raccoon Alley, Sapporo, started an event called "Happy Happy Penguin" on Monday, May 20 to watch the growth of fairy penguin chicks. There are many activities that we, as visitors, can join in to watch them grow from birth to maturity.
Three exhibitions to support growing chicks

Panels that record the growth process of the chicks are on display. You can see how the chicks are changing day by day and the record of the biological staff who are dealing with the changes.
2. Happy Happy Report
Visitors can view videos of the growth process and current status of the chicks as they grow up. The chicks weighed only 33 grams when they were born, but at 39 days of age, they have grown to about 23 times their original weight.
3. Happy Happy Tree
A participatory exhibit in which visitors write messages of support on leaf-shaped stickers to create a large "Happy Happy Tree. Let's decorate the tree to show your support for the Fairy Penguin chicks.

You can hear about the fairy penguins living at AOAO SAPPORO, how their chicks grow up, and their ecology from the biological staff who are in charge of the fairy penguins on a daily basis.

At the museum store on the 4th floor, a new item, "Penguin Lucky Charm: Fairy Penguin Ver." will be available as a key ring made from the feathers of the fairy penguins that are shed once a year.

In addition, "Polar Bear Bakery &" on the 6th floor is offering a limited menu to celebrate the birth of the Fairy Penguin chicks. The "Happy Penguin Parfait 2024" combines black jelly and smooth rare cheese, inspired by the fairy penguins' dark-gray body color. The egg-shaped cup was created to resemble a penguin being born from an egg.

Fairy penguin chicks born to Sora (band color: peach) and Aqua (band color: orange) hatched on April 7 and are now growing up in the bag yard. We are currently seeking names for these chicks. Please take a look at the fairy penguin chicks and try to think of the perfect name for them.
