At AOAO SAPPORO, an urban aquarium in Sapporo's Tanukikoji district, the "Happy Happy Penguin" event has started on Monday, May 20. This event allows visitors to watch over the growth of a fairy penguin chick, with many activities prepared for us to follow its journey from birth as it grows steadily.

1. Happy Happy Chick Growth Diary

This exhibit features panels that document the chick's growth process. You can see the daily changes in the chick and the records of the animal care staff who look after it.

2. Happy Happy Report

Watch videos of the chick's steady growth and its current state. The chick, which weighed only 33g at birth, has grown to about 23 times its birth weight by day 39.

3. Happy Happy Tree

This is a participatory exhibit where you can write a message of support on a leaf-shaped sticker and help create a large "Happy Happy Tree." Let's decorate the tree with our best wishes for the fairy penguin chick.

You can hear from the animal care staff who look after the fairy penguins daily. They will share stories about the fairy penguins living at AOAO SAPPORO, the chick's growth, and their ecology.

At the Museum Shop on the 4th floor, a new item is available: the "Penguin Lucky Charm - Fairy Penguin Ver." This keychain is made from fairy penguin feathers that the staff collected after their annual molt.

Additionally, at "Shirokuma Bakery &" on the 6th floor, a limited-time menu is being offered to celebrate the birth of the fairy penguin chick. The "Happy Penguin Parfait 2024" features a combination of blue jelly, inspired by the fairy penguin's bluish-gray body color, and smooth rare cheese. The egg-shaped cup is designed to evoke the image of a penguin hatching from an egg.
