The 72nd Tanuki Matsuri, held in Sapporo's Tanukikoji Shopping Street, kicks off this year on Friday, July 18th, but the main event is the "Night Bargain" on Saturday, July 26th! Each block of the shopping arcade will host different events, packed with fun for the whole family, including 200-yen beer, festival food stalls, kids' activities, and prize drawings. Furthermore, on Saturday, August 2nd, the "Tanuki Hattoku Reitaisai" will take place, featuring the Tanuki Mikoshi (portable shrine). It's a must-see event to fully enjoy summer in Sapporo.

The Tanuki Matsuri, held every summer in the Tanukikoji Shopping Street, is a historic event celebrating its 72nd anniversary this year. The arcade is adorned with lanterns and decorations, immersing the entire shopping street in a festive atmosphere. The main events are the "Night Bargain" held in each block (July 26th from 17:00) and the "Tanuki Hattoku Reitaisai" (August 2nd), where a portable shrine is paraded through the streets. It's a beloved "summer tradition in Sapporo" popular with both locals and tourists.

This is the event the Tanuki Matsuri is famous for! The "Night Bargain," starting at 17:00 on Saturday, July 26th, features unique events in each area from Tanukikoji 1-chome to 7-chome, including festival stalls, live music, exciting prize drawings, 200-yen beer, and 50-yen cola. In addition, various food and drink stalls from Tanukikoji's restaurants will be set up, along with a once-a-year bargain sale! A wide range of activities are planned for everyone, from children to adults.

Tanukikoji 1-chome: Drink! Eat! Get Fired Up with Live Music! (From 17:00)

The famous Tanukikoji 1-chome food stalls make their appearance. Enjoy a delicious array of food and drinks like beer, sake, yakisoba, frankfurters, and edamame! There will also be street live performances by musicians.

Tanukikoji 2-chome: Park Golf Tournament! (From 17:00)

A park golf event that everyone from adults to children can enjoy! For 100 yen per try (2 balls), sink a ball into the target cup to win fabulous prizes.

Tanukikoji 3-chome: Annual Can-Stacking Contest & Mini Festival Stalls! (From 17:00)

Participation fee is 100 yen and up per try. The person with the highest score in the can-stacking contest will receive a grand prize.

Tanukikoji 4-chome: The Go-To Place for Food and Drinks! (From 13:00)

Stalls will be bustling with offerings like charcoal-grilled steak and piping hot takoyaki, perfect for enjoying with a drink in hand.

Tanukikoji 5-chome: 200-Yen Beer & 50-Yen Cola (From 17:00)

Get a glass of Sapporo Classic for just 200 yen! Other Coca-Cola products like Coke, orange, and grape juice are also available for an amazing 50 yen!

Tanukikoji 6-chome: Fresh Produce Gacha Festival - 500 Yen Grand Lottery! (From 17:00)

A gacha lottery where you can win either Hokkaido's Yumepirika rice, a melon, or a watermelon! Draft beer will also be sold for 200 yen a glass, with refills for 100 yen. As a pre-event, a mochi-pounding demonstration will be held twice, at 15:00 and 16:00. (In cooperation with Furen-cho, Nayoro City)

Tanukikoji 7-chome: Delicious Specialty Stalls, Great Deals, and Fun Storefront Live Music! (Stores open as they are ready)

Enjoy unique food stalls from each shop, special sale items, and a jazz live performance in front of the Suntory Jigger Bar.

Then, on Saturday, August 2nd, the "Tanuki Hattoku Reitaisai" will be held. Inside and outside the Tanukikoji arcade, there will be Tanuki-daiko (drum) performances, and parades of a children's mikoshi and the Tanuki mikoshi.
