New in Tanukikoji! Sapporo Genghis Khan Nakaramu, a Specialty Restaurant for Fresh Lamb

Another must-visit spot has been added to the list for Sapporo sightseers. In July 2024, a new Genghis Khan (Jingisukan) specialty restaurant, Sapporo Genghis Khan Nakaramu, opened in Tanukikoji Yokocho in Tanukikoji 5-chome. The authentic Genghis Khan, served by a proprietor who fell in love with the charm of fresh, unfrozen lamb, has been so popular that it has attracted repeat customers right after its opening.

A New Hotspot in the Heart of Sapporo to Savor "Nama Ramu" (Fresh Lamb)

Nakaramu

Located in Tanukikoji Yokocho, a tourist spot that also houses the Satsugeki movie theater.

The main attraction of Nakaramu is its Genghis Khan, which is made with a special focus on fresh, unfrozen lamb (nama ramu). The meat is fresh New Zealand lamb specially sourced from a specialty store in Takikawa City. It has little gaminess and is juicy, and the cuts, adjusted to the millimeter, maximize the meat's umami and how well the sauce clings to it.

First, try the classic "Genghis Khan" (1,260 yen)

The signature "Genghis Khan" dish has a great balance of lean meat and fat, a classic dish where a rich flavor slowly unfolds with every bite. Furthermore, the "Special Premium Shoulder Loin" is moist and tender, and has already gained repeat customers who enjoy its moderate fatty sweetness and rich flavor. If you can't decide between the two, the "Double Genghis Khan Plate" (2,950 yen), which allows you to enjoy both at once, is highly recommended.

The "Special Premium Shoulder Loin" (1,690 yen), where you can also savor the deliciousness of the fat.

The meat is fresh New Zealand lamb sourced from the famous Hasegawa Genghis Khan in Takikawa City. Since it is cut to a uniform thickness down to the millimeter, it pairs well with the special sauce, allowing you to enjoy it to the last bite without getting tired of it.

Inside the restaurant, you can enjoy your meal with the familiar iron skillet and the heat of a charcoal fire.

Enjoy Your Meal Without Worrying About Smoke!

Nakaramu

The "Genghis Khan Plate Set Meal" (1,320 yen) lets you enjoy it hot until the very end.

The restaurant is cozy with only 10 seats, but this creates a homey atmosphere where you can feel comfortable dining alone. Of course, you can grill the meat yourself on the iron skillet, but you can also eat the cooked Genghis Khan on a plate in the common area of Tanukikoji Yokocho. Since you don't have to worry about the smoke at all, it's perfect for a stop during sightseeing or shopping.

During lunchtime until 3:00 PM, they also offer a "Genghis Khan Plate Set Meal" with rice and miso soup, which is popular not only with tourists but also with locals for lunch.

Deliciousness Perfected with Original Sauce and Hokkaido Ingredients

Nakaramu

The custom-made sauce, tailored to the flavor of Nakaramu's Genghis Khan, is exquisite!

The umami of the lamb is supported by an original sauce commissioned from a specialty producer in Otaru. Its exquisite balance of subtle sweetness and acidity allows you to enjoy it to the last bite. Another charm is that you can customize it to your liking by adding condiments like chili pepper, grated garlic, and white sesame seeds.

Furthermore, the lineup is committed to the blessings of Hokkaido, with "Nanatsuboshi" rice directly from Tsukigata Town and onions from Shintotsukawa Town as a side dish. The taste of the land is firmly alive in this meal, eaten in Sapporo, the home of Genghis Khan.

Nakaramu

The owner, Ms. Chikako Nakamura. Her hobby is eating out, and she has tasted various Genghis Khan dishes in the city.

You can't talk about this restaurant without mentioning its owner, Ms. Chikako Nakamura. Having grown up in Akabira City, where marinated meat is the mainstream for Genghis Khan, Ms. Nakamura was shocked by the tenderness and rich flavor when she first tasted fresh, unfrozen lamb in Sapporo. "I want to convey this感動 in my own restaurant"—she kept this thought, and with the support of her husband who runs a housing equipment business, she finally opened her long-desired establishment. Sapporo Genghis Khan Nakaramu is filled with Ms. Nakamura's long-held passion and dedication.

As a "new famous spot for Genghis Khan" that can be easily enjoyed in the heart of Sapporo, it is likely to attract more and more attention.
