In Tomamae Town, northwest Hokkaido, facing the Sea of Japan, Koichi Ogasawara, the representative of INAKA BLUE, runs an octopus fishing business while also working on the sixth industrialization of the industry. He processes and sells the giant octopus he catches himself, and continues to work to pass on the blessings of the local sea to the future. Here we introduce three "special things" that Ogasawara has discovered in Tomamae Town.

Koichi Ogasawara

INAKA BLUE Representative With the vision of "Bringing the dynamism of a fishing village to your dining table," we are working on the sixth industrialization of Tomamae Town, focusing on octopus fishing, starting with the development of ReTAKO, a product that supports sustainable fishing. Taking on challenges in the countryside is difficult. However, it is precisely in these difficulties that we find the future in which we can live our lives as we are. We are challenging ourselves to communicate and share the determination to live an exciting life in the countryside. We are taking on the challenge of creating such a dynamic business.

Boiled to perfection with care!
Special Food #1: ReTAKO

ReTAKO

Enjoy the natural flavor of giant octopus, with a gentle salty taste that spreads throughout your mouth. We deliver whole giant octopus legs weighing approximately 10kg, caught by ourselves off the coast of Tomamae, Hokkaido. We boil the freshly caught giant octopus until tender, semi-rare, carefully remove the skin, and flash-frozen it for easy cooking at home. Simply thaw it slowly in the refrigerator and you're ready to enjoy fresh octopus.

The crunchy texture of the cartilage will become addictive!
Special "Food" No. 2: Kasube Bacon

Kasube Bacon

You can try "Kasube Bacon" at Sankaisachi, a famous restaurant and dining spot in the Kotanbetsu district of Tomamae Town. Kasube is a type of ray commonly eaten in Hokkaido. It is carefully smoked until tender, making it a dish you won't find anywhere else. You can choose from two flavors: Mimasuzuke, which is packed with spicy spiciness and umami, and a refreshing marinade.

Koichi Ogasawara introduces "What is the appeal of Tomamae Town?"

Tomamae Town

Tomamae Town is located in the northwest of Hokkaido and is a town rich in nature, with thriving agriculture and fishing industries. As a town with such a primary industry, the fresh seafood and freshly harvested vegetables are its greatest draw. The roadside station is home to the hot spring facility "Tomamae Onsen Fuwato," and there are also many tourist attractions scattered around the town, including a reconstructed site of the historic "Sankebetsu Brown Bear Incident" and a local history museum displaying ancient documents.
