The fantastic supermoon was photographed by the Asahikawa Astronomical Club. The photo was taken around 6pm, when the clouds finally parted and the moon appeared. Comments on social media have been flooding in, expressing admiration for its beauty, with comments such as "I'm glad it was cloudy and I couldn't see it," "It's truly mystical," and "It looks like a perfectly round moon."

A supermoon is a full moon when the moon is closest to the Earth, and is characterized by appearing larger and brighter than a normal full moon. According to the Asahikawa Astronomical Club, the next full moon will be on December 5, 2025, when "it will again approach to within 350,000 km, allowing us to see a large, shining moon."

In September, we successfully photographed the "Red Moon" total lunar eclipse

The Asahikawa Astronomical Club also succeeded in photographing a total lunar eclipse in the early hours of September 8th. They captured the moon "dyed bright red." The next time a total lunar eclipse can be observed nationwide will be on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2026, when the eclipse will begin after 8pm. A member of the Asahikawa Astronomical Club said, "If the weather is good, the moon will be a mysterious sight that can be seen clearly with the naked eye."

The celestial show that shines in the clear skies of Hokkaido is now yours to see.
