We'll introduce recommended events in four areas: Northern, Eastern, Southern, and Central Hokkaido.

2021 Kamiyubetsu Tulip Fair

Dates: May 1 (Sat) - early June (planned), 2021, 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Overview: You can admire approximately 700,000 tulips of 200 varieties blooming in a riot of color. There is also a "dig-your-own" sale where you can pick your favorite tulips, bulb and all, from the flower fields. The peak viewing season is usually from mid to late May.

Overview: The Rekifune River Seiryu Koinobori is a signature spring event in Taiki Town, held from late April to early May. In honor of National Route 236, which crosses the Rekifune River, 236 koinobori (carp streamers) are flown across the full width of the river.

Overview: How about a drive along Prefectural Road 96, connecting the weeping cherry at Hokiji Temple, the cherry blossom tunnel at the National Historic Site Matsumae-han Tobetsu Jinya-ato, the row of cherry trees along the Ono River, and the Kiyokawa Senbonzakura (Thousand Cherry Trees)? The trees at Hokiji Temple, Matsumae-han Tobetsu Jinya-ato, and along the Ono River will be lit up from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM.

The 73rd Matsumae Sakura Festival

Dates: April 24 (Sat) - May 9 (Sun), 2021

Overview: Matsumae Park, selected as one of the 100 best cherry blossom spots in Japan, is home to about 10,000 cherry trees of 250 varieties. For a month from late April to late May, you can see a spectacular display of early, mid, and late-blooming varieties flowering at different times. The sight of the cherry blossoms with the Tsugaru Strait in the background is simply breathtaking.

Keiyu Nishimura Memorial Museum of Art 'Kacho Fugetsu'

Overview: In the permanent exhibition room, we are holding the exhibition "Kacho Fugetsu" (The Beauties of Nature), which introduces the 70-year career of artist Keiyu Nishimura, focusing on his landscape paintings of Asian countries. The exhibition space is divided into five sections, each displaying works from before he moved to France, and from his early, middle, and late periods in Paris, as well as works from the 1980s onwards. You can feel the changes in his artistic style through his brushwork and use of color.

EVENT 5 Seiju no Pan - A World Expanding from Otaru's Bread - (Otaru City)

Dates: April 3 (Sat) - May 5 (Wed), 2021, 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Overview: This exhibition introduces the world of "Seiju no Pan," focusing on 25 original drawings donated to the Otaru Museum of Literature by artist Yamahana, as well as valuable storyboards and draft manuscripts donated to the Otaru Library. Otaru is also a town known for having many bakeries since ancient times. The exhibition will introduce the history of Otaru's bakeries, including "Kobayashi Sanseido," a bakery founded by the uncle of author Takiji Kobayashi, where Takiji himself helped out as a boy. Furthermore, it's packed with information on the many unique bakeries currently active in Otaru!
