"Breathtakingly beautiful..." Swans from Siberia arrive! The fantastical winter of Lake Kussharo: "Elegant and resilient"

A scene captured at Lake Kussharo, the largest caldera lake in Teshikaga Town, Hokkaido, has become a hot topic. Its beauty is simply overwhelming.

This is Japan's largest caldera lake.

The swans, visiting from Siberia to spend the winter, look very elegant at first glance, but their struggle to survive on the frozen lake surface while enduring strong winds seemed incredibly harsh.
A pair of ducks was also being swept away by the wind, despite trying to hold their ground on the ice.

The sight of life persevering is always beautiful.

The post was made by photographer Emi Kikuchi, who moved from Nagasaki to Hokkaido in 2018. "I can't contain my excitement, especially for the winter scenery," says Emi, who captures the views seen in the harsh environment of the severe cold. She mentioned that on the day she visited Lake Kussharo, she was also battling strong winds while taking photos.
