A 4-Acre Restaurant? Discover the Amazing Country Papa in Hokkaido!
When you open the menu at Country Papa, you're bound to feel a delightful dilemma. Everything looks so delicious, you'll want to try it all. If you can't decide, I recommend the "Farm Lunch" (¥1,320, tax included). With over 10 different ingredients arranged on a single plate, it's a picture-perfect meal that's truly Instagram-worthy.
This dish is, in fact, the restaurant's signature item. Country Papa originally started as a farm growing barley, wheat, potatoes, and beans. Towards the end of the Showa era, they opened the farm to the public and began offering strawberry picking. Customers started saying, "It would be great if we could eat here too," which led to the opening of the restaurant. Being a farm-to-table restaurant is precisely why they can offer the Farm Lunch, packed with so many fresh vegetables.
Let me introduce one more recommended dish: the "Herb-Grilled Chicken" (¥1,210, tax included). It features chicken thighs from the Tokachi region, grilled with a unique blend of original herbs. Almost all the ingredients on Country Papa's menu are locally sourced. For instance, they use home-grown vegetables during the season and procure others from within Shikaoi Town. Perhaps the photos on the menu look so appetizing because they use only the freshest ingredients!
After enjoying your meal in the warm, wood-themed interior, be sure to look outside. Of Country Papa's 5,000-tsubo grounds, an incredible 4,000 tsubo are covered in lush green lawn. They also have ponies and goats, which are a huge hit with children. Above all, the vast, open lawn is a space where even adults can feel refreshed just by standing there.
Furthermore, on the third Sunday of June every year, this lawn becomes a showcase for a stunning lineup of classic cars. This event, called the "Kanpapa Car Enthusiasts' Gathering," has been running for over 20 years, which is truly amazing. The spectacular sight is a dream come true for any classic car fan.
And one last thing. The property also features two cottages available for overnight stays. Each cottage can accommodate up to four adults and comes with a kitchen, cooking utensils, and dishes. Many guests use these cottages as a base to enjoy an extended, immersive sightseeing experience in the Tokachi area.
Country Papa was indeed much more than just a Western-style restaurant. It's a farm restaurant packed with a variety of enjoyable experiences to suit different interests and purposes. Why not pay a visit and see for yourself?
