Kombu Curtains in Hiroo & Other Scenic Views of Tokachi's Kelp Fishing Along the Golden Road | Hokkaido Mirai Note (57)
Once again, we've selected three wonderful photos from the beautiful Hokkaido scenes captured and submitted by all of you!
Kombu Curtains (Hiroo Town)
A scene unique to Hokkaido at this time of year.
I spotted this on my way to Cape Erimo, along the Golden Road, and it was so intriguing I had to stop and take a photo.

You can almost smell the sea and feel the power of the sun, making you want to take a deep breath!
The Golden Road, connecting the Shoya district of Erimo Town to Hiroo Town, is captivating not only for its vast nature but also for the glimpses it offers into the region's unique industries.
One can only imagine how delicious this sun-drenched, wind-swept kombu must be, with its umami flavor concentrated to perfection.
A Farmer After a Day's Work (Mashike Town)
Cleaning machinery after a day's work during rice planting season.
Amidst the often somber news about an aging agricultural population and a declining number of farms, this is a sight I want to preserve for the future.

Against a beautiful watercolor-like sky, this stunning photo shows a farmer and their rice transplanter as if commending each other on a job well done!
Agricultural machinery are vital partners for farmers. To ensure they can work together safely for a long time, maintenance like washing off mud, applying oil, and painting is essential.
It's something we don't often think about, but this photo reminds us to appreciate the scenes behind our meals and eat with gratitude.
The Milky Way and Tulips (Kikonai Town)
This time of year in spring, you can see the beautiful Milky Way and a sea of Kanrin Maru tulips.
The Milky Way is visible until around autumn, and on a clear night, you can even see it with the naked eye.

This photo captures a truly unique scene you can only find here: the Milky Way, tulips, and the Kanrin Maru!
The Kanrin Maru was a ship built in the Netherlands in 1857 and served as a flagship in the early days of the Shogunate's navy. It was later caught in the Boshin War and became a supply vessel. In 1871, after leaving Sendai, it ran aground and sank off the coast of Cape Saraki in Kikonai Town.
The tulip gardens were created to evoke the Netherlands, the ship's birthplace, making this a place where you can also reflect on history.
